Headway builds technology that helps patients find therapists who accept insurance and helps providers run their practices, across all 50 US states.
Headway is an American healthcare technology company founded in 2019 that works on a well-documented problem: most therapists in the United States do not accept insurance, leaving care unaffordable for many of the one in four people with a treatable mental health condition. The company builds the infrastructure that lets patients find a therapist who takes their insurance and pay for care using it. Its care access platform has served over 1 million patients.
The other half of the business is aimed at providers. Headway sells practice management software that mental healthcare providers use to run their practices, including insurance acceptance and payment workflows. More than 60,000 providers across all 50 states use the network. The company's technical work spans healthcare technology, insurance billing and eligibility verification, provider practice software, therapist search and matching, and a two-sided mental health marketplace.
Headway has raised over $325m through a Series D round and operates across the whole of the United States. It describes itself as retaining a mission-driven startup mentality despite that scale, with the stated goal of making mental healthcare accessible and affordable for all.
